As more residents remain home due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation’s scientists are sharing tips to maintain water quality and our region’s sewer systems:

– Only flush toilet tissue. Even wipes labeled “flushable” can clog sewer lines and wastewater treatment systems, resulting in backups into the home and costly pump-outs.

– Do not dump trash, paint or chemicals from renovation or craft projects down storm drains. These materials can enter Lake Pontchartrain without treatment.

– Conserve water whenever possible. The average person uses 80 gallons of water per day. As more people remain home, that number will increase drastically.
