As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds before us, leaders should remember that emotional discipline is a major component of effective crisis response. In other words, don’t let your emotions overrule logic.
In normal times, purposeful, strategic decision-making and actions lead to success. This is also the case in the midst of a crisis. These are trying times. This is an unprecedented situation, but your emotional response is unlikely to be your best response.
We are all guided by our values and instincts. Don’t ignore them. However, the advice here is for leaders to temper emotions with clear, objective thinking and perspective.
