Remember the summer of ’72? Watergate hearings, “The Godfather” at the box office and “American Pie” atop the music charts. Meanwhile in New Orleans, the opening of an iconic new hotel signaled the city’s rise to become one of the country’s top meeting and convention destinations.
The New Orleans Marriott, which opened as the tallest building and largest hotel in New Orleans, celebrated its 50th anniversary in ’70s style on July 20 with proclamations, charitable donations and recognition of six charter associates who have worked at the hotel since day one.
