Rolling down St. Charles Avenue on Mardi Gras, I was amazed by the expansive view. Perched on the Rex throne with no obstructions other than the canopy of historic oak trees, I felt like I could see the entire length of St. Charles.
One of my favorite parts was the surprising intimacy of being able to speak with many revelers I met along the way. They enhanced my experience as Rex and provided me a warmth in the frigid weather that made the parade fly by quickly.
Those unexpected encounters energized me in a way that I will never forget.
