It happened 30 years ago this month, but memories of Saint Pope John Paul II’s visit to New Orleans are still vivid to those who were there.
The pope’s whirlwind visit to the city in September 1987 included a visit with Catholic school educators, black Catholic leaders and local clergy. He also appeared at a huge youth rally at the Superdome and celebrated an outdoor Mass near University of New Orleans.
On Sunday, September 10, WWL-TV will look back on its coverage of the papal visit with “Apostle to the World,” airing 1 p.m. on WUPL-TV 54.
