While philanthropy has always been a part of our culture, it was not until 1986 that President Ronald Reagan named Nov. 15 National Philanthropy Day.

The holiday underscores the importance of society’s working together for the common good through whatever means one is able: financial, volunteering or acts of kindness.

It was a few years earlier – 1983 – that American Express took corporate giving to the next level, launching the most celebrated cause marketing campaign yet, raising $1.7 million to restore the Statue of Liberty.

It is said that giving brings joy but the power of giving comes from the heart.
