When my siblings and I were little, we went to our grandparents’ house Christmas Eve for a very special phone call. A family friend was vice president at Maison Blanche (MB), the iconic New Orleans department store, and KNEW Mr. Bingle, MB’s lovable snowman!
We waited excitedly for the phone to ring, then were greeted with the playful voice of Mr. Bingle. “Jingle, jangle, jingle,” he sang, asking about our Christmas lists – and if we had been good – so he could tell Santa.
In New Orleans, Mr. Bingle was better than an elf, and the magical phone calls treasured memories.
