Out-of-date street tiles reveal layers of history

Here’s a challenge for you: Can you guess the current names of these streets?

New Orleans’ signature street tiles add a little bit of character to our bumpy thoroughfares. However, sometimes they bear the names of streets that changed names years or even decades ago.

We found these tiles in Uptown and Carrollton, but don’t expect to remember them – these names all date back to at least 1924; Elm Street was changed in 1894. Though no longer accurate, they remain fascinating relics of earlier eras. Hint: The middle one is “Berlin” and was renamed during WWI.
