As America prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, Louisiana Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is helping share a story many New Orleanians have never heard. Under Governor Bernardo de Gálvez, Spanish Louisiana played a vital role in securing American independence.
Today, DAR members honor that legacy through historic preservation, education, patriotism and community service, including recent volunteer efforts during Sail250! and Fleet Week. Many women are surprised to discover they descend from a Revolutionary War Patriot through French, Spanish, African American, Acadian, Creole or other Louisiana families.
