One Site. Two centuries of history

For 111 years, Chalmette Refining has been part of the fabric of St. Bernard and the history of the United States. The refinery rests on 400 acres of what was the de la Ronde Plantation in Chalmette, part of the site where the Battle of New Orleans was fought in 1815.

In 1944, the refinery was purchased by Bay Petroleum, whose owner, Charles Bay, was a high-ranking official in the OSS, the precursor to the CIA.
