Summer malaise

by Katem

I look forward to the lazy days of summer when a break from the 9-to-5 routine is warmly welcomed. It is a time to reprioritize my reading list from professional journals to mindless beach reads. While these escape books may be immersive entertainment, they are not totally without merit.

Page turners may be just what an often listless summer mind needs. A recent article in The Atlantic suggests that “summer” books can offer plot twists, a strange narrator or a weird yet compelling story – all effective in interrupting ennui.

But, experts advise, treasure that summer boredom as it fosters creativity.
