Zeus’s Law: an ancient code for a modern world

In my “previous life,” I taught mythology, so Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” naturally piqued my interest.The film’s exploration of Zeus’s Law – the sacred responsibility to honor guests, strangers, and even refugees – resonated with me as it was woven throughout the epic.

Known as xenia, this ancient Greek tradition viewed hospitality as a moral obligation. Thousands of years later, its message remains relevant. In a world marked by division and prejudice, Zeus’s Law reminds us that how we treat others, especially the vulnerable and disenfranchised, reveals the character of our society. Ancient wisdom still offers a moral compass for today.
