Advocates urge completion of Louisiana’s largest restoration project

by Katem

The Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion (MBSD) is a cornerstone of Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan, designed to restore wetlands and protect communities by reconnecting the Mississippi River to its delta. Construction began in 2023 after years of planning, permitting, and funding – but the project now faces politically-driven delays.

Despite broad bipartisan support, the governor has paused work. Meanwhile, an independent poll found that 83% of Louisianians support completing the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion. Advocates are urging state leaders to keep the project on track and trust the world-class science behind this urgently needed restoration effort.
