New Orleans’ historic Catholic newspaper celebrates 60 years

by The 100 Companies

The first issue of the Clarion Herald, the Catholic newspaper of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, hit the presses on Feb. 23, 1963 – a chaotic time in America marked by integration, the Vietnam War and changes to faith life ushered in by Vatican II.

In its 60 years, the Clarion Herald has informed and inspired readers, affirming them in their faith and helping them navigate life’s challenges.

Embracing a local, content-first news model, the Clarion Herald has tripled its Facebook audience in four years to 11,600, launched an electronic edition and captured videos – while honoring its faithful print readership.
