The origin and meaning of the Nativity scene

by The 100 Companies

To quote the popular carol from “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” Christmas time is here!  Among the holly, stockings and blow-up Santa decorations, hopefully one may find a few nativities. It is a common sight, but do we know its origin?

St. Francis of Assisi built the first nativity scene on Christmas Eve in 1223, in Greccio, Italy. His goal was simple yet profound: to impress a deep understanding of how Christ was born in poverty and simplicity.

So as we deck the halls, may each manger remind us of those less fortunate, and may we remember them this holiday season.
