New Orleans’ 2017 Budget Focuses on Public Development

by

In October, the City Council proposed its 2017 budget, which included $871 million for public construction. More than half of this section of the budget currently is allocated to road repairs.

Additionally, the city plans to update drainage systems, especially in areas most affected by Hurricane Katrina, and to improve the North Terminal of the airport. With the influx of direct flights to New Orleans, the airport has become a larger focal point for improvements.

Other line items included expanding the juvenile detention center and upgrading crosswalks and bike lanes because of recent tragedies. The budget was passed in November.
