Every day inspiration: Sam Cooper

Many people look forward to retirement so they can do nothing. For Sam Cooper, a 97-year-old volunteer extraordinaire, retirement gave him the time to help others. A resident of Marrero, Cooper spends most of his days volunteering at Wynhoven Healthcare Center, helping “old people.”

Cooper is a veteran of the Navy who has been active all his life. He is the only volunteer in his 90s, and everyone around him reaps the benefits. Whether he’s pushing wheelchairs, serving coffee or helping with bingo nights at Chateau de Notre Dame Assisted Living facility, Cooper is always there to help.
