As America celebrates its 250th birthday, June’s National Rivers Month offers us an opportunity to recognize the Mississippi River’s enduring importance to New Orleans and our nation. For centuries, the river not only created our abundant estuary, but has served as an economic engine, cultural crossroads and vital transportation corridor, helping shape the city’s identity.
Today, it remains essential to Louisiana’s communities, industries and ecosystems. Looking ahead, utilizing the river to help restore the wetlands it sustains is a critical investment. Restore the Mississippi River Delta remains committed to ensuring that the river sustains our region for generations to come.
