Sustaining Our Urban Landscape (SOUL) is driving a resilient and environmentally equitable New Orleans by reforesting our city. Our canopy was decimated by Hurricane Katrina, and we’ve lost an additional 10% since 2005. Today, our canopy covers merely 10% of our city.
Since 2016, SOUL has planted 6,232 trees to reduce street flooding, improve air quality, and lower air temperatures and energy bills. Volunteers plant 1,500 trees per season. Saturday planting days are open to the public October through March, while private weekday opportunities are available to local and visiting groups seeking meaningful volunteer experiences.
Join us in reforesting our city.
