Cancun is a popular vacation destination, but a lesser-known retreat lies two hours south along the Caribbean coast. Tulum is a quiet Mexican town with quaint hotels, restaurants and shops where you can live like a local.
It’s home to world-class beaches, natural swimming holes called cenotes, and one of the best preserved Mayan sites, the Tulum Ruins. The remains of the Mayan city are a wonder to behold, and the private beach just north of the Castillo (castle) elevates the experience even more. Be prepared for a full day, and bring plenty of sunscreen, water and snacks.
