Sailing to Cuba in Three Days

by

Eight people travelled 76 hours and 511 miles as part of one great sailing competition. The NOLA-based crew of Southern joined 17 other vessels in the Pensacola a la Habana Race.

Cutting across the Gulf of Mexico, we made our way to Cuba, hoping to clinch the racing division title. Finishing at Havana’s Marina Hemingway, we claimed first place in the Racing Division.

We celebrated our win with the wonderful, welcoming Cubans before heading back to NOLA. We also came back home acknowledging we are incredibly fortunate that we live in a country with freedom of speech and association.
