Maintaining a New Orleans Landmark in a Storm

by

Ever wonder what happens to the Steamboat Natchez when we head out of town for threatening weather?

For minor storms up to Category 2, the Steamboat Natchez stays docked in NOLA, with its captains and crew aboard, ready to move in case of emergency. For Category 3 storms or higher, the Natchez sails up to White Castle, Louisiana. This upriver location keeps the boat safe from barges that may come loose due to high winds on the Mississippi. There, the crew, armed with food, air mattresses and TV, will wait out the weather and return to NOLA, safe and sound.
