In the Louisiana State Legislature, where all salaries are equal, why is it that the body continues to reject bills that provide equal pay for women? State legislator Helena Moreno believes that sometimes her counterparts might be the reason, often siding with males to protect businesses in rural communities.
With only 14 percent women, the Louisiana Legislature ranks at the bottom nationwide. St. John Parish President Natalie Robottom believes women typically have to go the extra mile to achieve equal pay, and St. Tammany Parish President Pat Brister says equal pay opens the door for businesses to attract better employees.
