Local news matters

What is happening at your child’s school? Property taxes going up? New restaurant coming to town? Is that nursing home safe for mom?

The answers won’t come from CNN and they don’t revolve around national politics. Local newspapers and their web sites offer information vital in our daily lives. Yet they are under financial strain as advertising revenue erodes. We must find new models to pay for the free flow of accurate, independent information, and shine a light on our institutions.

So buy a subscription to your local paper or its web site. Journalism is not optional in a democracy.
