Why is National Flood Insurance important?

by
National Flood Insurance

With the Mississippi River at epic heights, it’s critical to examine National Flood Insurance. For the 2019 NFIP reform package, GNO, Inc.’s Coalition for Sustainable Flood Insurance underscores:

• A strong NFIP is important for real estate. A lapse may affect 40,000 home sales per month.

• Affordability is vital for working and middle classes – 62% of policies are in areas with median household incomes less than $53,889.

• Coastal areas have 51% of both US population and jobs and 57% of US GDP. Flooding is the most common national disaster, impacting all 50 states.

A healthy NFIP benefits all.
