What to expect this hurricane season

The early forecasts are out for the 2018 Hurricane Season beginning June 1. Indications are for a slightly above normal season.

NOAA’s and Colorado State University’s forecasts show the numbers are slightly higher than average: 12 named storms, seven hurricanes and two major hurricanes. We may transition from a La Nina to a neutral phase in the Pacific that may still allow activity to be slightly above normal. Some of the Atlantic also has cooler water presently.

The first storm that develops will be named Alberto. Four storm names were retired from the 2017 list: Harvey, Irma, Maria and Nate.
