Autumn in New Orleans

After a long, hot summer in New Orleans, fall is finally here. What can we look forward to as we enter autumn?

• Cooler weather – Average high temperatures gradually drop from 84 degrees at the start of October to 68 degrees by Dec. 1. Our first “real” fall cold front (where temperatures drop below 60 degrees) usually arrives in mid-October.

• Dry weather – October is the driest month with an average of 3.54 inches of rain.

• Less tropical activity – there is typically a big drop in activity during October, leading to the official end of hurricane season on Nov. 30.
