In NOLA, we’re used to hearing the phrase, “ain’t dere no more,” but how often do we get to hear something has returned?
Barrow’s Catfish in Hollygrove has reopened near its original location after a 13-year hiatus following Hurricane Katrina. The restaurant is serving up fried catfish and potato salad, just like the old days. Owners Deirdre and Kenneth Johnson were high school sweethearts who learned to cook their signature dish from Deirdre’s father. He learned from his father, who opened Barrow’s nearly 75 years ago.
What’s next? Teaching the fourth generation how to fry catfish the Barrow’s way.
