2018 hurricane season results

by

The 2018 hurricane season’s over, and we finished slightly above average. Our forecast was for slightly below or average, but an expected El Niño did not occur by season’s end.

We had 18 named storms, eight hurricanes and two major ones. The average is 12, six and three. The only threat to Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi was Tropical Storm Gordon. This was the fourth year in a row where a system developed prior to June 1. Florence caused catastrophic flooding in the Carolinas. Michael had fourth-strongest wind speed at landfall in U.S. history and third-lowest pressure.
