Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, signifies extravagancies before Lent, which begins on the next day, Ash Wednesday. Growing up Catholic, we were encouraged to “give up” something, such as candy, for Lent, but as we matured, “giving up” transitioned to “give,” like offering daily prayers. Here are four steps to being more prayerful:
1. Take the time to pray.
2. Speak to God; tell Him what’s on your mind.
3. Listen attentively; God speaks through thoughts and feelings, even music.
4. Pray in silence; this is essential to prayerfulness.
Prayer is a surge of the heart that leads to a deeper relationship with God.
