Negotiating Tips From the NOLA Chamber

While we know the importance of negotiating, it can still be difficult to know where to begin. Here are a few tips to help direct your negotiation strategy:

– Prepare; do your research on your counterpart, whether it’s a potential employer, current boss or whomever it may be.

– Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want; being assertive while maintaining respect for the other party is critical in negotiations.

– Take your time, and always be willing to walk away; don’t settle or lose your ability to say “no.”

– Relax; remember, it is possible for both parties’ needs to be met.
