WWL-TV billed itself as “The Newest Look in TV” when it signed on the air 60 years ago.
The call letters were shared with a radio station known nationwide, but there was still much “new” to celebrate on Sept. 7, 1957. That night, a special broadcast christened the studios built in an old 7-UP bottling plant.
Now, WWL anchors relive memories of those 60 years. On September 6 at 9 p.m., the station will launch a yearlong celebration of the New Orleans tricentennial, branded “360” – commemorating 300 years of New Orleans and 60 years of Channel 4.
