Since the Louisiana Legislature’s 2015 decision to cap film tax credits at $180 million annually, New Orleans has experienced a $200 million loss in film-related spending and lost over 1,000 jobs.
It’s easy to think that our film industry is over; however, reports show that, while bigger movies are veering away from New Orleans for filming, many TV shows are not. Some argue that shows provide a steadier, if smaller, source of revenue than movies.
For now, New Orleans’ film industry must continue its cost-effectiveness to ensure it can attract both kinds of film to its streets.
