Public Relations efforts reflected during my African adventure

World Elephant Day highlighted the fact that in 1800, there were 26 million elephants in Africa; in 1900, 5 million; today, less than 500,000. Fifty-five elephants are killed for their tusks daily.

On National Women’s Day, Cape Town Press Club was criticized for its all-white, predominantly male committee, mimicking apartheid. A call for diversity made front page news, prompting the first black chairman’s resignation.

Our Zanzibar guide used National Farmers’ Day to increase awareness of herbal medicines, showcasing remedies at a health fair. A treasure trove of herbs beckoned to restore memory, rid pains and enhance vitality.
