A legacy of service: JLNO reflects 20 years after Hurricane Katrina

by The 100 Companies

When Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, the Junior League of New Orleans responded with resilience, leadership and action. We reopened our Thrift Shop to support returning families with essentials. We hosted more than 1,000 League volunteers from across the globe for a citywide revitalization effort that helped rebuild homes and public spaces.

We also planted the seeds for long-term recovery, launching Get on Board to strengthen nonprofit leadership and partnering on rebuilding efforts that became Rebuilding Together. In 2014, we created the JLNO Diaper Bank to meet urgent needs for women and families, a lifeline that continues today.

For 20 years, JLNO has evolved to meet the changing needs of our city, helping create lasting change through community-based projects, partnerships, and trained volunteer leadership.

Join us in honoring this legacy – and continuing it – by learning more through the Status of Women in New Orleans Study: jlno.org/status-of-women-study.
