Breaking the cycle of homelessness

by The 100 Companies

The New Orleans Women & Children’s Shelter (NOWCS) arose in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, when the desperate need for safe housing for women and children became more urgent than ever.

For nearly two decades, NOWCS has served as the region’s leading shelter for intact families – including fathers and older sons – and assisted over 4,700 parents and children recovering from homelessness with physical shelter, programs and holistic support services. Only two percent of participants have returned to homelessness.

NOWCS stands as a powerful example of what is possible when a community meets a need with compassion, creating lasting change for generations.
