As Ochsner prepares to celebrate American Heart Month this February, we’re looking back at historical landmarks of the John Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute.
In 1970, we performed the first heart transplant in the Gulf South region and only four years later, implanted a heart pacemaker in an 18-hour-old infant: the youngest patient ever to undergo this procedure.
Some may also remember the 40-foot-high human heart model from when Ochsner was named the Official Healthcare Provider of the 1984 World’s Fair in New Orleans! Seventy- five years later, we continue to shape healthcare through innovative ways.
