Hidden Histories, Revealed: THNOC joins others to commemorate historical sites related to New Orleans slave trade

Historians have identified at least 50 sites in downtown New Orleans associated with the slave trade, but despite the pervasiveness of the trade, few permanent reminders of its enormous impact on the city existed until recently.

For the city’s 300th anniversary, THNOC President and CEO Priscilla Lawrence and other civic leaders charged a team of scholars and activists with bringing this hidden history to light. Ultimately, six sites were selected to mark with historical plaques, and the team developed an associated walking tour app.
