Casey Joiner photography exhibition at Sibyl Gallery

Louisiana native and New Orleans local Casey Joiner confronts the poetics of grief, loss and memory in her series titled “Surrounded by Natural Causes,” now on view at Sibyl Gallery through Sunday, Aug. 18.

For her first solo gallery exhibition, Joiner recalls the untimely death of her father, Tim Joiner, a former LSU linebacker, after a multiyear battle with cancer. Joiner’s deeply personal series of images glorifies moments of overlooked quotidian beauty, juxtaposing images of quiet sorrow with those of hope and rebirth.

The exhibition is open Saturdays and Sundays between 12-6 p.m. at 8630 Zimpel St. in New Orleans.
