In New Orleans, everyone knows the iconic beignet: French-inspired fried dough with powdered sugar originating back to the 18th century. In this century, local chefs and caterers started exploring their take on beignets – seafood stuffed beignets, cochon beignets, beignets with goat cheese and blackberry compote, beignet ice cream and more.
As beignets of all kinds proliferated restaurant menus across town, inspiration struck Festival Producer Sherwood Collins. New Orleans needed a festival to celebrate beignets!
Beignet Fest was born in 2016 and was an instant hit. It’s doubly sweet because the festival has a charitable mission: proceeds benefit nonprofit autism programs.
