Stay tuned for more of John Pope’s story, including how he met his wife, on The New Orleans 100’s Facebook page.

I can’t imagine a better way to learn all about your city than to write for a daily newspaper. Being a reporter provides a license to pry into things that people might not want to know about, and you get amazing access to everyone – and everything.

You have to be on your toes, because you never know what may happen from day to day. You may be chatting with interesting celebrities or Nobel laureates, staking out crime scenes, confronting politicians or riding out a hurricane. My job provided a great benefit: It led me to meet the woman I married.
