Food shortages, tedium and the desire to become more self-sufficient have ignited a major interest in home gardening across the world. And for good reason.

The Journal of Health Psychology has shown that just 30 minutes of gardening can lower cortisol, or stress hormones. Also, a NASA study back in 1989 showed that common houseplants like gerbera daisies and peace lilies can remove harmful toxins such as benzene and formaldehyde from indoor air.

Finally, a 2019 study in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that brain nerve growth increased significantly in participants who planted a garden.
