2018’s Pantone color of the year is ultraviolet. Why? According to Pantone, it’s because the color “communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.” To Pantone, ultraviolet reflects not only what’s trending but also what we need this year. Ultraviolet is created when two nearly opposite colors, blue and red, collide to create a new hue.
Given the political and social climate of 2017, the message behind this year’s color is thought provoking and timely, earning ultraviolet significant press coverage for a paint chip.
