As a PR professional with regular newsletters, television segments and public appearances, I figure I am at times pretty visible. While I do occasionally get recognized, writer Jeff Haden recently reported in Inc. that most people overestimate the spotlight effect.
In fact, the majority of people do not notice what we say, what we wear or what we do. And even if they do notice, they likely do not remember. While you may want to shine for clients, employees and select others, remember no one cares about your persona more than you, and that is the only spotlight that matters.
