New Orleanians of certain generations remember Dr. Momus Alexander Morgus, “Morgus the Magnificent,” a prototypical mad scientist played by Sid Noel Rideau and his perpetually cloaked assistant, Chopsley (Tommy George).

The sci-fi duo became local favorites, hosting horror movies and executing ill-advised experiments on WWL-TV in 1959. They went on to star in the 1962 cult classic “The Wacky World of Dr. Morgus.” By the late 1980s, the beloved characters returned to the small screen in “Morgus Presents,” a 52-episode revival that has been in syndication intermittently over the years, with four episodes released on DVD.
