Very soon, if not already, Christmas decorations will adorn our neighborhood homes and stores. Among the holly, stockings and blow-up Santa Clauses, you may find a few Nativity scenes. It’s a common sight, but do you know its origin?
St. Francis of Assisi built the first Nativity scene on Christmas Eve in 1223 in Greccio, Italy. His goal was simple yet profound: to impress a deep understanding of how Christ was born in poverty and simplicity.
So as we deck the halls, may each manger remind us of those less fortunate, and may we remember them this holiday season.
