Work took my son Meric and family to Amsterdam, London and Portugal this summer, and I was fortunate to spend a few amazing weeks with them. Watching my grandchildren experience international cultures was a nod toward the benefits of travel.
Besides “playing tourist,” they lived like locals, using public transportation, shopping at markets, trying new foods and learning phrases and customs. They particularly loved the various modes of transportation – from London’s tube to Lisbon’s Tuk Tuk.
Amsterdam’s canals, London’s royal history and Portugal’s hills and rocky coast enriched their understanding and appreciation of life outside the U.S. Priceless memories!
