For years, my dad owned Algiers Point – the grassy acreage by the ferry – until his death, when his children became custodians.
The iconic property unquestionably offers the most spectacular view of New Orleans – like looking at New York City from Brooklyn. Over the years it has been the site for movies, concerts, events and the annual Algiers bonfire. Its future welcomes imagination, and I have been connecting with community representatives/influencers to explore the best use for the Point while honoring dad’s vision to respect the integrity of the green space.
The Point’s commanding significance lies in our city’s rich history.
