Each year, 600 babies are born with a congenital heart defect. That’s 1 in 100 births in our state. On average, more than 40 newborns die from heart defects annually.

Home to the Gulf South’s first pediatric heart transplant, Ochsner Hospital for Children boasts a state-of-the-art Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), the only one of its kind in the state. The CVICU opened in 2016 and delivers critical cardiac services to the region’s sickest patients.
