One of the many things I handled during my years at The Times-Picayune was the Loving Cup ceremony. Before I was more intimately involved, I thought this was just some award that was given to a well-known person in the community, to someone who knew a lot of people and sat on a lot of boards.

At WWL-TV, covering and serving the community go hand in hand. That’s why over 30 of our staffers volunteered their time for WWL-TV’s annual Day of Service on Saturday, Nov. 3. Channel 4 team members cleaned, painted and landscaped the Terrytown/Gretna Head Start Center.

PARK(ing) Day NOLA, presented by the Downtown Development District and the City of New Orleans, took place on Friday, Oct. 19. New Orleanians spent the day transforming metered parking spaces into temporary public parklets all over the city.

The Bayou Lacombe Cardinals participate in the Xtreme South Football League’s Hurricane Division and have racked up an impressive records of wins. The team is led by head coach Gerrin Narcisse and includes some of the area’s best former high school and college football stars who entered the workforce after school. The team plays all of its home games at Lakeshore High in Mandeville.

The Marconi Bike Path, which has been under review by various state and federal entities for six years, is about to become a reality. Despite numerous bureaucratic setbacks, the construction team broke ground on the path in December.
